Franchise FAQ - Strongbox Lock & Safe Co.

Franchise FAQ

We’re looking for owners who want to build something that lasts in their own town. No prior locksmith experience required. Just the discipline to follow a system that’s been working since 1984 and the patience to do every job like it’s your mother’s house.

Common Questions

Do I need locksmith experience to open a Strongbox franchise?

No. Most of our franchise owners came from management, military service, or another trade entirely. We train you and your lead technician from the ground up on Schlage, Medeco, Mul-T-Lock, and the full hardware line. What we look for is someone who understands that a locked-out customer at 2 a.m. is scared, not just inconvenienced, and who’ll answer the phone themselves until they’ve hired enough people to do it for them.

What’s the total investment range to open a Strongbox location?

Typical startup costs run from the mid-five figures to low six figures, depending on whether you’re converting an existing shop or running mobile-first from a service van. That covers your territory rights, initial inventory of premium hardware, branded vehicle wrap, and the training period. We don’t hide numbers behind a discovery day. Call us at (877) 664-8139 and we’ll walk through the line items for your specific market.

Is financing available?

Yes. We have relationships with third-party lenders who understand the home-service franchise model, and many of our owners have used SBA-backed loans or equipment financing for their initial vehicle and inventory. We don’t finance in-house, and we won’t promise you terms we don’t control. What we will do is introduce you to people who’ve done this before and can tell you what actually worked.

How does territory and exclusivity work?

You get a protected territory defined by zip codes or county lines, depending on population density. No other Strongbox franchisee can market or perform work inside your boundary. We don’t stack locations on top of each other. The iron box where your grandfather kept the deed - that’s the image. One strongbox per community, built to last.

How long is the initial training?

Two weeks at our headquarters, followed by a week in the field with an operating owner. You’ll learn the technical work, the phone-quoting system that eliminates bait-and-switch, and the K.E.Y.S. values that govern every customer interaction: Krafted right, Every time, Your home first, Standing behind it. Then we stay on-site for your first week of live calls.

What ongoing fees or royalties should I expect?

There’s a flat monthly royalty and a modest contribution to the brand marketing fund. No percentage games based on gross revenue that punish you for growing. The fee structure is designed so you know your number every month, same as your customers know theirs when we quote flat on the phone. No surprises on the bill - that applies to our franchise relationships too.

How long does it take to open after I sign?

Most owners are taking calls within 60 to 90 days of signing. The variables are local licensing, vehicle setup, and how quickly you hire your first technician. We’ve had motivated owners move faster and careful ones take longer to find the right lead tech. We’ll be there when we say - we don’t rush the parts that matter.

What support do you provide after I’m open?

Live phone support from our operations team, not a ticket system. Quarterly business reviews. Annual recertification on new hardware lines. Access to our flat-price quoting software, our background-check vendor, and our uniform supplier. Marketing materials that actually work in the heartland - newspaper inserts, church bulletins, county fair sponsorships. The same community-rooted playbook that’s worked since 1984. And when something breaks at your location at an odd hour, you call a person, not a queue.

What does the ideal Strongbox franchisee look like?

Someone who’s been burned by a bad business deal and remembers it. Someone who’d rather make a fair profit on a job done right than squeeze every dollar and sleep poorly. Someone who plans to be carried out of their town, not flip their business in three years. Our best owners are 45 to 60, have managed people before, and still answer their own phone until they’ve built a team worthy of handing it to.

What’s my next step if I’m interested?

Call (877) 664-8139. A live person answers, 24/7, including nights, weekends, and holidays. We’ll send you the franchise disclosure document, schedule a call with an existing owner, and if it makes sense for both sides, we’ll set up a discovery day at headquarters. No pressure, no deposit to “hold your territory.” Just a square deal and an honest conversation about whether this fits.

Still Have Questions?

We don’t do voicemail trees or callback queues. Call (877) 664-8139 anytime, or fill out the form below and we’ll call you back within one business day. If you’re the kind of person who builds things that last, we’d like to meet you.
